I have just had the opportunity to browse the website of P21 (Partnership for 21st Century Skills). The url for the website is http://www.21stcenturyskills.org/. I greatly enjoyed learning about what P21 is all about.
The mission statement for the Partnership for 21st Century Skills is to "Serve as a catalyst to position 21st century skills at the center of US K-12 education by building collaborative partnerships among education, business, community and government leaders."
I feel that this is something that our schools need in order to prepare our U.S. students with the skills that they need in order to compete in the global workforce. I was a little surprised that this is actually the first I have heard of P21. I was also surprised to see that my home state of South Carolina is not on the list of states that are currently involved in this initiative.
I did not see anything on the site that I disagree with. I feel that what P21 is doing can have some very positive implications for our students. By teaching students by the framework created by P21, I feel that we will be doing a better job of preparing them for the 21st Century workplace and therefore giving them an advantage in an increasingly competitive job market.

Sally,
ReplyDeleteI am also surprised that more states have not joined the P21 program. I agree that P21 will have a positive impact on the students in today’s classrooms. The program will help prepare the students for the future. I believe it is our job as an educator to do everything we can to help our students be successful in the future. I would like to see my state become part of the P21 initiative.
I plan to use the website to teach these skills in my classroom; however I do not think they will be taught in every classroom until they are incorporated into the state standards.
Mrs. Moore,
ReplyDeleteI agree that teaching our students these 21st century skills is imperative so that they can be successful in the business world. I liked how you quoted the mission statement from the Partnership for 21st Century Skills website. I think for this program to be truly successful it will take "partnerships among education, business, community and government leaders." Especially with the amount of funding needed for technology in our schools, everyone has to be on board. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later that all states become involved in promoting the 21st century skills. We can do our part now by trying to incorporate as many of these skills as we possibly can in our current situations.
I agree with you Mrs.Moore’s about the 21st Century workplace and the increasing competitive job market.
ReplyDeleteIn the college where I work now in U.A.E., the government wants the Emiritization to take place. Due to this situation the students whom we are teaching need to look into the current job market for their future employment.
The recession which is taking place in the country is making the employer to cut down staffs. They give more preference for who has the valid accreditation on technology to secure their current position.

ReplyDeleteIn the college where I work now in U.A.E., the government needs the Emiritization to take place. Due to this present situation the students are desperately looking in to the current job market to achieve their goals. As educators working along with that purpose, we implement the skills that are required for the students.
The country is facing recession; the employers are cutting down the staffs as they give preference to those who have valid accreditation on technology.
