Carrying Out My GAME Plan
In order to carry out my GAME plan, there are some things that I will need. As far as resources go, I will first of all need support. I will seek support as needed from the technology specialist at my school. I will also need support from my administration and the math department at my school when I plan for and attend technology conferences. Another resources that I will need is time. Creating these activities will require much time and effort if the activities are going to be good activities. Furthermore, I will need creativity and confidence when creating new activities for my classroom. Finally, I will need technology resources and information on that technology. I will also need the knowledge to use and teach the technology that my students will be using. So far I have not had the opportunity to take steps to start to create these lessons. However, I hope to start soon. I plan to start implementing these activies at the beginning of second semester in January, so I will begin planning these activites within the next few weeks!

Last night I attended/presented at my districts 21st century schools meeting. My co-worker and I produced a technology video. His daughter (a freshman in HS) showed us how to edit the movie and put it on YouTube. The panel asked her about the collaboration. She went on to say that teachers should ask kids for more help. The students live and breathe the technology, and many are willing to help out. This was an Ah-Ha moment for many of us in the meeting.
ReplyDeleteI think we over look our students as resources. While we might be the experts in the curriculum, they really are the technology gurus.
Sally,
ReplyDeleteI agree that it takes much time to plan. I am also already starting to think about next semester. I feel that if I plan way ahead, I will be better prepared and able to secure the resources I need.

Sally,
ReplyDeleteI have found that planning atleast a semester ahead makes implementing new technologies and teaching strategies into units makes it a lot less stressful for me and results in a more productive lesson for my students. And as Rinehart suggested allow your students to help out.
Sara, I hope you will get the support that you will need. The intentions are good and benefitting for the students,so seek until you find.I agree that you will also need time.Implementing technology in the classroom for the first time is really time consuming, but when you get use to it; it makes sure a big difference.
ReplyDeleteThanks for all of the helpful and encouraging comments! It is great to know that others are going through or have gone through the same thing I am!

Sara,
ReplyDeleteI think we can all agree that we could use any and all support we can get. We have a person designated as a "technology champion" at my school. Unfortunately there are two tech. champions for 125 teachers and 2000 students. We had a media specialist that was very helpful, but she also runs our library and her staff of 5 was completely cut. It's unfortunate because our districts want us to implement technology but they give us no support and we are basically on our own as we try to learn these new technologies. How is the situation in your school? Good thing there are programs like this to help us along!
